We cannot See

Martel Moore
Colorblindness is when one looks at their life and believes that another is supposed to be treated the same way. Many whites believe do not see how privilege they are then other races. They believe since we are way past slavery and segregation that everything is now fine. It’s not many Blacks and Hispanic are looked as less educated and sometimes a criminal. There is not one day I believe this does not happen and whites really will never understand because they will not be treated this way unless they have a long black trench coat and wild hair. Many individuals in today in age believe people are in the minimization stage because of the minority life style. The truth is yes, the minorities have it a lot better than in past decades but that still does not take away racism that comes their way.

From Hurricane Katrina to older events such as the Rodney King beating, minimization tells the true factor of a lot of people. Even the people who do not realize the effects of racism do to these people in the world. Everyday someone is being treated wrongly because of their skin color or their ethnicity. “Liberalism whites use to explain racial matters is the Jeffersonian idea of “the cream rises to the top” or meritocracy. (Bonilla-Silva Pg. 32) Yeah this is true, the better man or woman will win the better position but in reality this does not always happen. There are so many examples of people being over looked because of their race. They could be clearly qualified and do a better much job, but because of one’s race they feel they must go some other way and make excuses. This will go on for years to come because even when minorities are in the position to pick the best qualified, they too look at one’s race to choose the promotion or any situation. The fact that one can do this to another is wrong and everyday there are examples that that people make big mistakes when performing these acts. We need to stop stereotyping and discriminate on individuals because their race. It does not matter if you’re white, black, purple, or blue we need to come together and make this life work at the best of our abilities. Stop trying to bring each other down but pick one up. Show them the right way to be successful in life. To make one person better out of your life time can start a trend the world cannot believe and for this to happen we must come together and really be colorblind.
