One Nation Divided by Color

Generally speaking, I do not like to discuss politics because the conversations get overly heated when every one thinks that their views are superior to everyone else's. But in this case I'll take a stab at it; but first off I must put out the disclaimer that I know almost nothing about politics. I do however know that whatever political views one may have, race should not be included into the reasoning to vote one way or another but unfortunately this is America and the White House is probably the most corrupt building in our "Land of the Free". Race and politics has been an ongoing issue since the day non-whites were allowed to vote.
The question on everyone's mind since Obama's first term has been "How can America be divided if we have a black president?" Ill answer that for you: for one it could be that OBAMA IS NOT FULLY BLACK HE IS HALF BLACK AND HALF WHITE. If we can get that through our thick skulls that he is bi-racial, then maybe we can work on living harmoniously together. I mean he's a bi-racial and it works for him, why can't we all get along with other races too? The second reason why we are still divided in my opinion would be that people no longer vote in terms of what it would do for the country as a whole; elections have become a popularity contest. The best looking runners get votes or the youngest runners get votes. People have voted for or against Obama soley because of his race. " I'm voting for him because we have never had a black president" or "We can't have a black president this is AMERICA". (Both comments are comments that I have heard during election time).
This right here, these two reasons are why America may never be the integrated country that we think we are. We cannot move forward if all we keep thinking so ignorantly. Most whites control the capitol because non-whites feel inferior to whites. Yes our president is "black", wouldn't that give more the confidence to try and gain leadership roles too? If he can do it so can you; that is how we are supposed to think. Instead we just sit around and expect him to be the voice of "our people" while we just sit around critizing the actions he takes. If we really cared we would get out there and help "our people"; we would try harder to live harmoniously instead of making everything a competition.
