If we stop and think about it, we will see that race is used quite often in today's media. We see it in tv commercials, billboards, magazines, youtube videos, etc. According to Nielsen Media Research, “An American individual spends about 4 hours, 35 minutes a day watching TV” (Buzzle.com). With that much exposure, many of us may not be noticing that the media is overrun with racial stereotypical messages. The media has a history of making it difficult to get accurate representation of people of color and that hasn't changed in recent years. The amount of race that is in the media is influencing how we view people by how they are being represented in the media. With all the advancements that have been made in regards to race, isn't it time to change when it comes to the underrepresentation of people of color in media? Companies who advertise their products, the advertising companies, and even the places where the advertising are shown should be held accountable for what is being put out there. Until they change the way race is being reflected, then the average person will begin to change as well.
