first blog, Naimark chap 1-3 Genocide

In fires of hatred “Ethnic Cleansing” by Norman M. Naimark, first chapter is about the Ottomans and the Armenians. It discusses from the collapse of the multinational empires and the emergence of the nation states. It also discusses the ideal of ottomans which allowed Muslims and non-Muslims to be equal. The Ottoman Empire than turned into turkey which is now a nationalism country. This chapter also talks about the effect on the war and how police would go door to door harassing people for weapons and if they did not have weapons would then get threatened to get thrown in jail. Because of the loss of the Ottoman land due to the Balkans war genocide was conducted. Many died and suffering came upon. During the war many Muslims from the Ottoman Empire grew much hatred and anger towards the Turks. The Christians were looked down upon and labeled as traitors. Naimark also discuss the Armenians and how hunger struck them because of the genocide that was going on. This can relate to Russia during the world wars. When Russia poisoned their wells to trick enemies they were also running at a food shortage because of it and cause genocide within its walls. Only 250,000 Armenians survived the genocide march.
Chapter 2 is about the Nazi and their attack on the Jews. The Nazi had a rule that if you were neither of blonde hair nor green eyes you were looked upon and tortured as punishment. Many Jews died from the Nazi attacks and many Jews suffered horribly because of the Germans act towards them. The Jews were bullied. The Nazi aim was the destruction of their enemies. Total massacre and power hungry. The Germans were very racist, their government was nationalism and the government issued the anti-Jew legislation which then sponsored the massacre on Jews. The Nazi ideology was to get rid of the parasites which are killing Jews. This chapter was all about the racial act towards Jews and the Nazi’s and Hitler’s hate towards them

The third chapter soviet deportation of the Chechens-Ingush and the Crimean Tarts is about Soviets aim to control all of its citizens. The Soviet is a communist country and goals were to crush anyone that weren’t (in its soil). If there was even a notice of nationalism it has to be crushed. Communism is the way to go according to Russia. The Russia used war as an excuse to release Crimean Tatars and Chechen-Ingush form the soviet boarders because of their gain in nationalism. They were thought as someone that would betray the Soviet. All three believed in bad views on massacring people which is why all 3 chapters relate to genocide.
